Composite Veneers
A composite veneer is sculpted directly onto your tooth in resin, layer by layer, in a single visit. No lab, no temporaries, and usually no drilling. It is the fastest and most affordable way into veneer territory, and in the right hands the results are remarkable.
Direct veneers, done by hand
Where porcelain veneers are made in a laboratory and bonded on later, composite veneers are built in your mouth by the dentist, shaping tooth-coloured resin over the natural tooth and curing it with light. What is the difference between composite and porcelain veneers?
Composite is sculpted directly onto the tooth in one visit and costs a fraction of porcelain, but stains sooner and lasts fewer years. Porcelain is lab-made, stronger and more stain resistant, but costs more and takes multiple visits. Many patients start with composite and upgrade later.
How long do composite veneers last?
Typically four to eight years, depending on your bite, habits and how well they are maintained. Regular polishing extends their life, and unlike porcelain, small chips are repaired in minutes rather than remade in a lab.
Can composite veneers be whitened?
No, whitening gel does not change composite resin. If you plan to whiten your natural teeth, do it before the veneers are placed so the composite can be matched to your final shade. Stained composite is refreshed by polishing or re-layering instead.
Are composite veneers really done in one visit?
Yes, in most cases. A single tooth takes well under an hour; a set of four to six front teeth is usually completed in one longer sitting. There is no laboratory stage, which is what makes same-day treatment possible.
